Arboriculture and tree-business terms in plain words.

Definitions used across the Treelocity office app, crew app and customer reports—written so new groundsmen, office staff and property owners read the same language.

Used across tree inventory, risk reports, plant health care and job costing.

A to Z

Key field and office definitions

Action rating (Risk assessments)

The plain-language overall urgency assigned to a tree risk assessment in Treelocity—Monitor, Plan work, Act soon or Act now—so property owners understand next steps in clear homeowner language.

ACH bank transfer

Direct bank-to-bank payment through the customer portal. Stripe processes ACH at 0.8% capped at $5 per transaction, making it ideal for large tree removal and commercial invoices.

Crown cleaning / crown thinning / crown raising

Specific pruning objectives stated on estimate line items: removing dead, dying or diseased branches (cleaning), selective removal to increase light penetration and air movement (thinning), or removing lower limbs for clearance (raising).

DBH (Diameter at breast height)

Trunk diameter measured in inches at 4.5 feet above ground level. Recorded on every tree pin in Treelocity to track tree size over time and price removals or systemic treatments accurately.

Equipment operating cost

The hourly internal cost rate assigned to a truck, chipper, stump grinder or crane. When equipment is assigned to a visit, its operating hours multiply by this rate and add to the job’s cost.

Duplicate-safe sync & import

A safeguard where repeating an offline crew sync, QuickBooks sync or CSV file upload updates existing records cleanly instead of creating duplicate customers or invoices.

PHC (Plant health care)

Preventive and therapeutic programs—such as soil injections, foliar sprays and root collar excavations—scheduled across a season with product, application rate, applicator and weather logged per visit.

Pre-tax job margin

The agreed pre-tax job price minus recorded employee labor cost, equipment operating cost and consumed material cost, expressed in dollars and as a percentage of pre-tax revenue.
